Pre-Excavation Information

Call Before You Dig

State law requires excavators, contractors, and homeowners to call the Utility Notification Center of Colorado before embarking on any excavation project. Calling (1-811) or (1-800-922-1987) before every digging job gets your underground utility lines marked for free and helps prevent undesired consequences.

Pueblo West Metropolitan District provides availability to Water service at approximately 97% of the lots within the District. Sewer Service is also available through the District to approximately 45% of the lots. Pueblo West Metropolitan District does not guarantee water or sewer service is available to every lot in the District. The District does not guarantee that a stub is available to the lot. It is the responsibility of the owner and/or installer to acquire a street permit if needed, dig to the main, install the service line and have the installation inspected prior to restoring the excavation. Availability of Service should be investigated before the purchase or development of land within the District. Information for Water and Sewer Service availability, installation and inspections may be obtained by calling our office at 719-547-3554. Information regarding tap fees may be found by clicking the Fees link provided here.

Within Pueblo West typically residential lots with an area greater than 1 acre require an Individual Sewage Disposal System (ISDS). The type of soil you have available for a leach field will be very important in determining the cost and function of your sewage system. It is wise to require a soil and percolation test prior to purchasing land in these areas. The Permitting and Inspection of these systems is regulated by the Pueblo County Health Department. Septic System maintenance is the home owner's responsibility. Typically septic tanks should be pumped out every 2-5 years. Pueblo County maintains a list of licensed cleaners and contractors. Homeowners should keep a diagram of the location of the Septic Tank and leach field as well as maintenance records. The diagram should be consulted during landscape planning to assure septic system access; the location of trees, fences, structures, and roadways is a primary consideration. If you do not have a diagram of your septic system the Pueblo County Health Department may have a record of your system.

San Isabel Electric and Aquila Networks provide electrical service. For information regarding which electric company will service your needs, the staff at Pueblo West Metropolitan District, Committee of Architecture, or Community Development will be happy to answer your questions.

Electric service may not be readily available to every area of Pueblo West. It is important to determine which electric company will serve the area where you will live as well as the proximity of electrical power. It can be very expensive to extend power to remote areas. This research should be done in all cases, even when you are assured that power is available to the property that you are considering purchasing. Misunderstandings may be avoided by taking this important step. If you have special power requirements, it is important to know what level of service can be provided. The cost of electric service is usually divided into a fee to bring service to the property, hook into the system and then a monthly charge for energy consumed. It is important to know what these costs are before making a decision to purchase a specific piece of property.

Natural gas service is also available in some areas of Pueblo West. Information regarding availability may be obtained from Public Service Company of Colorado at 1-800-772-7858 or Colorado Natural Gas at 800-720-8193. Residences not served by natural gas have the option of propane or electrical heating. There are several companies offering propane service.

Trash removal is also available in Pueblo West. It is illegal to create your own trash dump, even on your own land. It is good to know the cost for trash removal as you make the decision to move to Pueblo West.
