Outdoor Soccer
The Pueblo West Parks and Recreation offers soccer for youth during the Spring and Fall seasons.
The leagues are recreational and are not competitive in nature.
PROGRAM DATES - SATURDAYS
April 10 to May 15, 2010
Youth Soccer is a CO-ED recreational program for all boys and girls ages 5-12. Kids will is designed to teach the fundamentals of soccer/futsal, focusing on the skills needed and the rules of the game, preparing both boys and girls for team play. The kids will have lots of fun.
PRACTICES: Practices are the first 20 minutes before each weekly game
GAMES: Lovell Park
COST: $20.00 per child. There is a $25 fee on any returned check and there are NO REFUNDS AFTER PROGRAM START DATE.
COACHES MEET: March 31 from 6-8pm at the Parks and Rec office.
REGISTRATION: Mail or drop forms off in mail slot with fee to the Parks Office before March 26.
*Deadlines are established to meet team selection and scheduling for game times and coach meetings. Late registrations are subject to late fees if availability on teams permit for the program.For more information, please contact the Parks and Recreation office at 547-7400.
OUTDOOR SOCCER MODIFIED RECREATION RULES
NUMBER OF FIELD PLAYERS
A team shall consist of a maximum of 10 players (5 & 6 yr olds), maximum of 10 players (7 & 8 yr olds), and a maximum of 10 players (9-12 yr olds).
*Remember of the maximum players, 1 must be the goalie.
PLAYING THE GAME
Two teams face each other on a field of play 60 x 100 (5 & 6 yr olds), 80 x 120 (7 & 8 yr olds), regulation soccer field (9-12 yr olds). A game will consist of two 15 minute halves with a 5 minute halftime break. The first 20 minutes of the hour will be a practice.
PLAYING THE BALL
A ball is controlled by a player using six basic skills: kicking, heading, thigh trap, chest trap, passing and dribbling.
SOCCER TERMS
KICK OFF A kick off is taken at the start of each playing half and after a goal has been scored (by the team who didn't score).
PROCEDURE The kicking team shall designate a player to kick the ball from the center of the field. The ball must go in a forward direction toward the goal they are shooting for.
BALL IN PLAY The action is continuous until a goal is scored, an infraction (foul) occurs, or if the ball goes out of bounds.
TO RESTART PLAY The throw in is taken by the team who didnt touch the ball last and it goes out of bounds on the side lines of the field.
PROCEDURE Players shall throw the ball in a forward manner by holding the ball with two Hands behind the head. The feet are not to leave the ground during the throw.
CORNER KICK is taken when the defense last touches the ball and it goes out of bounds on the goal boundaries.
PENALTY KICK is awarded for infractions occurring in the penalty area.
DIRECT FREE KICK is awarded from the point of an infraction.
GOAL KICK is awarded to the defense if the offense last touches the ball when it went out of bounds on the goal boundaries.
SUBSTITUTIONS
A substitution may enter the game for any player. TO AVOID CONFUSION, substitute your players at the following times: when the ball is out of play, after a goal has been scored, or between halves.
GOALKEEPER PRIVILEGES
The goalkeeper may catch, throw, punt, kick, or bounce the ball within the designated goal area.
*once the goalie has control of the ball, all players should be instructed to clear the goal area.
TYPES OF FOULS
Each coach should take time to teach a "play the ball" style of soccer that will detour such fouls as tripping, tackling, high kicking, pushing and holding.
*result of any such foul will be a free kick from the point of infraction. (intentional hand ball included.)
TIME KEEPER
The coaches will decide upon a time keeper. Games scores will not be taken, nor will teams be ranked at the end of the season.
REFEREES
Each team will provide one (1) official per game.
*due to some modified procedures and rules with the Metro District's Recreational Programs, participants, coaches and bystanders must accept the
referee's judgment as FINAL. REMEMBER, you may be out there someday.
SPORTSMANSHIP
The Pueblo West Parks and Recreation Dept. supports a high level of sportsmanship by team members, parents, and all participants. Anyone who doesnt comply with the rules will be asked not to participate.
PROGRAM PURPOSE
This program is designed to provide youth with the opportunity to participate in an organized Sports program that will emphasize basic skills, sportsmanship, enjoyment, and cooperative Participation with peers. NO SCORES ARE TO BE KEPT!
CONDUCT
It shall be the responsibility of all spectators, parents, and participants to conduct themselves in a proper and sportsmanlike manner. Any individual who, in the opinion of the coach, is conducting him/herself in an improper manner shall receive a warning to stop such conduct. Should the individual not comply, the Parks and Rec. Director will be notified and the situation will be taken care of.
LIABILITY
Parents should be aware that there is some risk involved in activities of this nature, and that ALL participants do so at their own risk.
PRACTICES/GAMES
Practices are every Saturday the first 20 minutes of the time parent & children arrive. The next 40 minutes will be a game situation. Every week a different skill will be taught.
TRANSPORTATION
All participants are responsible for their own transportation. Make sure your child is picked up on time.
