Off to the races we are! 2020 will likely forever be memorialized as somewhat of an infamous year. However, while countless have expressed their relief at its expiration, the impacts and struggles of last year did not reset on January 1, 2021. The impact on the economy and way of life will have lasting effects well into the future. Experts have been discussing continually how the housing market may change, what transformations could be coming to the retail and office landscapes, and how people may interact differently in social and business environments.
Thankfully, we’ve been fairly resilient in Pueblo West compared to many other communities. Certainly homes and businesses have been hit hard, and there is plenty of recovery that we hope and need to see take place, but overall the community still stands firm and is in a good position for a positive 2021. We have stable demographics in household incomes and tax base, we continue to increase in population, bringing additional business traffic and revenues into the community, and there is a lot on the line-up in economic development efforts this year.
Some of the things we will be working on in 2021 are: designing the aquatic center and possibly breaking ground for construction, seeing site development begin for the Soccer Haus, developing a plan to address the inadequate broadband for the current and future needs of Pueblo West, business attraction in commercial and industrial areas, analyzing our capacity for growth in our utility systems, develop strategies to accommodate additional multi-family development, and continue working with other area agencies on expediting the development process. With all these things and more in place, and the great support and work in the community around us, we look forward to a great year!
