This election will remain a mail ballot election. Because the District has enjoyed the cooperation with Pueblo County in the past, the District has not developed a group of trained staff which would be adequate to conduct the May 2023 election. Recognizing the fundamental importance of election integrity, the Board of Directors approved a contract with a private company that has substantial experience conducting special district elections, Community Resource Services of Colorado, to conduct the special election.
The Board urges every eligible voter to exercise their right to vote for their community representatives.
No. CRS is under contract with Pueblo West Metropolitan District only for the May 2, 2023 election. On Jan. 27, the office of Pueblo County Clerk and Recorder declined the Metro District’s request to conduct the election. In the past, the County Clerk had administered Pueblo West elections. The decision resulted in the Metro District Board of Directors seeking a third-party to administer May’s election. Learn more about this change to the 2023 election.
Ballots may be returned by U.S. Postal Service (postage required) in a signed return envelope included with the ballot, to Community Resource Services at 7995 E. Prentice Avenue Suite 103E, Greenwood Village, CO 80111 (map). Ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on May 2, 2023 to be counted.
Ballots may also be returned by 7 p.m. on May 2, 2023 to a ballot drop box located at the Pueblo County Sheriff’s substation: 320 E. Joe Martinez Blvd, Pueblo West, CO 81007 (map). Do not return your ballot to any other drop box.
The District is very concerned about election security. Community Resource Services has implemented security measures including locked transport and storage of completed ballots and election judge review of ballots to confirm that they were submitted by eligible electors.

There have been reports of voters under the age of 18 being sent ballots for the 2023 Board of Directors election. This is because a list of registered voters received from the Pueblo County Clerk and Recorder's Office on March 2, 2023 inadvertently included 16- and 17-year-olds who had pre-registered to vote but are not eligible to vote until they are 18 years of age. This list was updated and subsequently sent to the Metro District on April 20, 2023.
CRS has always had election safeguards have always been in place to ensure ineligible votes would not be counted. As ballots are returned, they will be checked against the updated list of registered voters, and any ballots received from individuals under the age of 18 will be disregarded, unopened, and not counted.

The Pueblo County Election Office will NOT take walk-in voters. Please return your ballot by mail or drop box.
To apply for an absentee ballot or if you have not received a ballot (to be mailed by April 17, 2023), please contact Community Resource Services at 303-381-4960. Their address is 7995 E. Prentice Avenue, Suite 103E, Greenwood Village, CO 80111.

Preliminary results may be available as soon as Election Day, May 2. Final results will not occur until overseas ballots have been processed, and a Canvass Board reviews the judges certificate of election, that all paperwork has been completed properly. That date will be sometime between May 8 and May 16, 2023.
